HOW CAN MY WALLS BE INSULATED ?

The following steps are used to insulate walls

Most homes in Las Vegas are somewhat insulated on the outside walls ,  usually with a low grade fiberglass R-13 or R-19. Quite often the interior walls are not insulated at all. This translates into higher energy costs , and increased noise traveling from room to room.

No matter which walls in the home are to be insulated , the retrofit process is the same.

1. Whichever walls are to be insulated , the homeowner must have all furniture , pictures , artwork , and anything else moved away from the wall. A 4 foot area is needed away from the wall.

2.We will first cover all the floors with carpet mask , plastic , or rosin paper , depending on the type of flooring. We will then make plastic barriers that lead from our point of entry into your home to the walls we are working on. They will be from ceiling to floor and sealed tight.

3.Walls adjacent to those being worked on will be masked tight with tape and plastic.

4.Once the home is prepped , and it is determined that the walls have existing insulation in them , we will open each stud bay using a 6" hole saw. One hole will be cut 12" below the ceiling line , and directly under any horizontal bracing , or blocking. Any blanket insulation found will then be pulled out of the wall cavity. If no insulation is found in the walls , a 1" hole saw will be drilled into the stud bays.

5.Starting at the lowest holes first , insulation will be blow into each hole , until full. The process is repeated on the upper holes untill the wall is completed.

6.To close the holes we anchor 1x3" backer board to the back side of the holes so the backing is approximately 2" wider than the holes on both sides. The backing is screwed to the existing drywall creating a solid backer for the drywall we cut earlier to be screwed to. After all the drywall is screwed back into place we start the finishing process. 1" holes do not require any backing to be installed.

7.Drywall tape is put over the cut seams in the drywall. The holes are then mudded with a joint compound until completely smooth. The texture is then applied to match the pattern that pre-exists. A 24 hour cure time is needed before applying a finish coat of paint.

8. After painting , all prep materials are bagged and removed , and the area is cleaned back to the way it was on arrival.
